The ancient Tamil country, also known as Tamilakam and Damirica in ancient Tamil and ancient Greek literature respectively, refers to an ancient, independent region in the areas of modern South India. Approximately during the period between 350 BCE to 200 CE, Tamilakam was ruled by the three Tamil dynasties of Chola, Pandya and Chera, and a few independent chieftains.
